They touch more levels, from urban planning, to energy, to the purely aesthetic. CasaNova quarter at the very first outskirts of Bolzano is an example of sustainability brought on an urban scale and not just residential one.
Located inside the SEE campaign promoted in Italy by the Ministry of the Environment, the district was recognized as a prime example, on national territory, for the implementation of actions in the field of energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources, to reduce CO2 emissions.
There are accommodations for about 3000 people in 950 apartments, located in the so-called “castles”: individual buildings which are similar to each other and which share the same intent. The entire area was designed by architect Siegfried Delueg, first prize winner of the competition organised by IPES (Institute for social housing in the province of Bolzano) for the construction of the neighborhood that had high performance, but very affordable prices for poorer people.
So which are the echo features of CasaNova?
All buildings are subject to the requirements of CasaClima Class A, thanks to renewable sources, the quality of the materials with which all buildings have been designed, and the high thermal insulation made possible by rock wool coat.
All energy comes from renewable energy, district heating systems, geothermal heat pumps, until in some cases to the floor heating with radiant and natural ventilation controlled.
The orientation of the buildings and their location on the area is not random, but is maximized the natural light, without overheating.
Finally, public spaces and green areas that surround the buildings, have very high design standards, which were attended by several landscapers. In addition, special attention was given to mobility, and definitely supplemented, if not replaced, by walking or cycling.
